Variation Model - Spring and Masses

Set up the activity and give clear directions on what the students are to do, what they are to analyze, and what questions they are to answer. You could also ask students to reword their task to make sure they understand.

 

Below are the instructions given to the students.

 

  • Collect 5 data points for (mass , stretch amount).

  • Determine the type of variation between mass and the stretch.

  • Predict the amount of stretch if 2000 g are attached.

 

Another approach could be to have multiple springs and masses for your class, divide the students into groups of three, and then ask one group to report on their findings once the activity is completed.
