AMATYC ASSESSMENT PLAN AND REPORT CHECKLIST

Program Assessment

For use by department/program conducting assessment of student learning outcomes.  The questions are intended to be used by any program within the context of the institutional assessment framework.

  1. The Plan/Report includes all the program information required by the institutional reporting framework (title, description, requirements, program history, etc.)
  2. The Plan/Report states 3-5 measurable program (student learning) outcomes that support the stated institutional mission.
    1. The program faculty have defined and recently reviewed the comprehensive list of student learning outcomes for the program
    2. The statements are formulated in terms of what students should be able to know (cognitive level), think(affective level) and do (behavioral level).
  3. Means of assessing  Student Learning Outcomes are identified.
    1. The Plan clearly describes student artifacts that will be used.
    2. The Plan describes the location, timeline, and faculty or other persons responsible for collecting assessment data.
    3. The methods of assessing each outcome should measure all aspects of the intended outcome.
    4. Multiple means (two or three) of assessment are described for most if not all outcomes.
    5. If a scoring rubric is to be used, it may be required with the submission of the Plan. If submission of the actual rubric is not required, it should be clearly described in the plan.
  4. Benchmarks/criteria for success for all means of assessment are established by the program and clearly described..
    1. The criteria for success are stated in terms of what faculty expect of program completers, not what individual students know, think, or do.
  5. The report should describe the data that has been collected and its analysis.
  6. The report should describe how the faculty have used the data relating to assessment of student learning outcomes to make program improvements
  7. The report should include a description of all faculty involvement in the program assessment process.

Below is an abbreviated checklist.

The Program Assessment PLAN

  1. Do the program outcomes reflect core values and relate to the institutional mission?
  2. Has the program identified all Intended Educational Outcomes for students completing the program?
  3. Has the program selected 3 – 5 outcomes for the current assessment period?
  4. Have multiple Means of Assessment been defined or described for each of the 3 – 5 outcomes?
  5. Does each Means of Assessment have established Criteria for Success?
  6. Have assessment responsibilities been assigned and a timeline and procedures established?

The Program Assessment Plan IMPLEMENTATION

  1. Have the data been collected and analyzed?
  2. Have the faculty discussed the data and its analysis and determined how it will be used to make program   improvements?
  3. Have the program improvements been implemented or partially implemented and have these improvements been adequately described?
  4. Have the student learning outcomes that lead to improvements been continued for the next assessment period to determine the effectiveness of the improvements?
